NE 16th Street, Before and Afters

Here ya go! More to follow.  I do have to get better before pics in the future.... But we were so anxious to get started on this one, we didn't have the patience.

Our House - The Living room

In the beginning.... There was a loooooooong hallway at the front door. It was a little unnerving and just plain not good. Then the living room, a haven of walpaper and aqua carpet. Stippled ceiling and wood trim everywhere. We knew it was the house for us... ;)

Here are photos from our first time ever seeing it. Back in the summer of 2012.

Here is during the renovation. Layer on layer of wallpaper coming down...

Then the wall comes down! Oh happy, dusty day!

Then many many weeks of drywall work and patching and paint (oh and a built in book shelf project, because I said "hey! wouldn't that look great here...?")   This was just before Christmas in 2012. Updated pics to come :)

New Life Redevelopment.... A Love Story

This is the story of a chair caning furniture builder and a soap maker's assistant met, fell in love and made a family. She became a commercial realtor and he was talented at building more than furniture. They found the only home they could afford, a neglected uninhabitable foreclosure. That was their first renovation.  They rehabbed the home one tiny project at a time.

They worked, had babies and kept chipping away at the project list. One day they realized they lived too far from the coast, and 30 days later they found peace in a little town called Oak Island. Perhaps the most affordable beach living anywhere, they were shocked they could afford to live at the beach. Life was still hard and filled with challenges, but being near the water soothes it all.
